Lessons and Teachers
We offer half hour (30 min) private lessons once a week for $80 per month. Lessons are available for the following instruments: Piano, Electric Bass, Guitar, Ukulele, Drums, Violin, Fiddle, Viola, Cello, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Lower Brass, and Accordion. . We have a total of 24 highly qualified teachers, each specializing in a specific instrument, and 15 studios to accommodate them.

Candy Anderson teaches FLUTE, CLARINET and VIOLIN. She been teaching both the clarinet and flute since 1986 and has studied violin since 1987. She has a Bachelor's degree from CSUS and has played in the Gold Country Orchestra, as well as the SCC & Cosumnes orchestras and various folk/dance music ensembles. Candy studied flute with Dale DeWald and Edna Camenchero. She learned to play the clarinet from her father, Russell Walter Kline and her violin studies have been with Gilda Taffet, Michael Neumann, Ward Finley, and Lisa Lawson. |
Mike Bobo has been teaching PIANO here at Kline Music since 1976. He has studied music at schools in both the U.S. and in Europe. He enjoys all types of music and teaches jazz, classical, and popular style. While students of all ages are welcome, younger beginners should be at least 7-8yrs old. Apart from teaching, Mike also performs locally with numerous groups, as well as his own jazz combo. The most frequent comment he hears is:" I wish my mother hadn't let me quit piano lessons when I was young."
Student turnover is very low and any new applicants may be put on a waiting list.

Jeremy Bolt has been teaching brass players of all levels since 1991. His individualized approach, teaching philosophy, and broad musical background help nurture the “whole” musician. Jeremy holds a B.M. from Berklee College of Music where he was awarded both the Berklee Winds Scholarship for performance and the Peter Kaleta Scholarship for composition. A specialist in the Broadway musical, Jeremy has performed in over 35 pit orchestras, and has served as musical director for productions on both coasts of the USA. Dave Chelini teaches ACCORDION. He has played music professionally for over 35 years. He studied music under Frank Impinna of Frank & Dolores Studio in Carmichael, CA, and Joe Neronde in Sacramento. Dave also established a combo that played in the Sacramento area for 21 years. He served on the board of directors for the Northen California Accordion Association (1975-79), and is currently a member of the Northern California Accordion Society and the Golden State Accordion Club. Dave began teaching at Kline Music in 1966 and later continued from home. In 2003, after a 20 year break, he returned to the store, and is now offering lessons to all ages with a positive direction toward enjoying the accordion. Laura Correia has been playing the PIANO for over 27 years and has been teaching for a little over 12 years. Learning through private lessons, Laura studied music in college with an emphasis in music history. She developed an interest in music at a young age; her mother played piano and organ so Laura was constantly surrounded by music. Her love of performance was groomed by her first piano teacher who organized regular piano recitals. Throughout her highschool and college years, Laura, performed in choir, musicals and plays. Teaching has always been a dream for her, and she has developed a patience for children by being the oldest of 6 kids. |

Mr. Dey has been playing for 48 years and teaching for 25 years. He has toured the world with major stars like Linda Ronstadt, Mike Bloomfield, Van Morrison and is one of Sacramento's most in demand drummers. Tony teaches a wide range of styles including Jazz, Swing, Rock, Funk, Country, Reggae, Zydeco, Cajun, Blues, R&B, Brazilian and Salsa. His method of teaching employs a rich catalogue of musical rudiments, proper technique and the reading of drum notation. |

Reylynn Goessling. She graduated from CSUS with a Bachelor's of Music Performance and a Bachelor's of Arts in Humanities in 2001. She has performed with the CSUS Symphony as assistant concert mistress and in various Opera Orchestras as well as chamber ensembles. She has played with the Solano Symphony, the Apollo Symphony and the Stockton symphony. Currently, she is playing as Assistant Concert Mistress Camellia Symphony.

Aiko Hamaguchi studied at the Kochi University in Japan and has 27 years of experience playing classical piano. She has been Director of the Children's Choir at Hamaguchi Music School in Japan and she has also taught piano, vocal and tutored in music theory at Sacramento City College. Her students range from beginning to intermediate and she accepts children as well as adults. Aiko's main objective is to help students excel in a higher level of art with an emphasis on classical music.

Dave Johnson teaches all Brass instruments. With over thirty years of experience as a professional musician and educator, Dave Johnson is one the busiest freelance trumpeters from the Sacramento area. He currently performs with the Bill Rase Big Band, Sister Swing, And the Horn Dawgs horn section. Dave has held former trumpet chairs for the wooden Nickel Jass Band, the Mikes Torres Band, the Coasters and the Drifters touring the United States, Canada, and México. In addition to his performance schedule, Dave has been a private brass instructor for the past twenty years. He is also the Director of Youth Bands for the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society, and freelances as a clinician, composer and arranger as well as continuing his own musical education at the California State University of Sacramento. Some of Dave's recording credits include: The San Francisco Forty Niners professional football team, Mick Martin and the Blue Rockers, Sister Swing, Beer Dawgs and the Wooden Nickel Jass Band to name a few.

Jeanne Johnson has been playing GUITAR for more than 30 years and teaching here at Kline Music for 12 years. She studied guitar locally with Gilda Taffett, Susan Scangarella and Marc Teicholz of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Dr. Ivan Olson and Walter Kerfoot of the American gave her a solid foundation in music theory. She also studied the Suzuki Method for the guitar with Frank Longay and uses it to instruct students who are interested in this method. "A student can begin playing the guitar as early as age 6 or 7, or enjoy taking up this instrument at any stage of life." As a private teacher, Jeanne offers an approach to music that helps ensure immediate success-- this helps build student enthusiasm for the instrument and motivation to practice. Lessons are tailored to each student's musical goals and personal abilities. She focuses on proper technique and incorporates note reading, scales, and chord theory into lessons from the start to create a foundation for more challenging music. The advantage of private lessons is that each student can work at his or her own pace.

Kenny Manlapig has been playing GUITAR for over 30 years, and teaching and performing professionally for over 21 years. He has taught at various music stores- however, since 1995, Kline Music has been his home. In 1997, he earned a AA degree in music from Sacramento City College, graduating with honors. His twenty-plus years experience as a working musician includes performances at clubs throughout California and Hawaii. In 1997, he performed at the Monterey Blues Festival, and in 2001 he performed at the International Pop Overthrow music festivals in Hollywood. Recently, he's been playing guitar for different musical productions around Sacramento, including Woody Guthrie's American Song and Jesus Christ, Superstar. In October '04, he lent his talents to a production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Besides performing live, Kenny has also recorded 3 CDs with different groups (two of which are available at Kline Music). For the 1999-00 and 2000-01 NBA seasons, he wrote and recorded the Sacramento Kings' Arco Arena introduction music. For the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons, his music was used for the Kings' radio broadcasts. He is currently the guitar player and worship team leader at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and School, where he also teaches guitar. Kenny has taught students of all ages, although he has had more success with students eight years of age and older. If you and/or your child wants to learn to play the guitar, he can help.

Violist Christina Maradik is an active member of the music community, having performed with The Reno Philharmonic, Vox Musica, Gold Country Chamber Orchestra, Peninsula Symphony, as well as Sacramento based bands: Daisy Spot, Agent Ribbons, An Angle, and Anton Barbeau. Maradik has also worked with Turtle Island String Quartet, Jean-Phillipe Collard, Sarah Brightman, and The Alexander String Quartet. Recipient of the Norman Lamb Memorial Scholarship in music performance, Maradik studies at CSU Sacramento, and, through pursing a degree in art history, was awarded the R.W. Witt Scholarship. Currently, Maradik teaches private viola and violin lessons, and performs regularly with Baby Grand and David Houston.

Electric Guitar and Electric Bass
Gabriel Nelson has played since he was 11 years old. Although Gabriel never had any formal lessons he learned and developed his musicianship by performing and asking questions along the way, his fellow musicians were quite helpful with this. Through his high school years he studied music theory and played bass in the jazz ensemble, directed by Ike Paget. After graduation he began playing local gigs in Sacramento with many different bands, until 1992 when he joined Cake. From that point forward he has toured the United States and abroad several times as well as performed on the band's platinum selling albums. Gabriel incorporates an emphasis on the basics of melody, rhythm, harmony, music arrangement, reading music, music theory, proper technic and ear training, along with teaching his students songs they want to learn.

| Kathleen Poe has taught PIANO at Kline Music for over 10 years. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, studying with Mack McCray at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, as well as with Gene Savage and Richard Cionco at CSUS. She earned her Masters in Music Composition, studying with Leo Eglar. Her work, "Expressions for String Orchestra" was premiered by the CSUS Symphony in 1998. Kathleen has performed extensively in the Bay Area as well as in Sacramento. She has performed as a pianist with the Monterey Symphony, Gold Country Chamber Orchestra, California Youth Symphony and CSUS Symphony. She has also played for Music Circus, Davis Musical Theater Company, CSUS Opera Theater, and many other performing groups. Kathleen divides her time between Kline Music and Sacramento City College, where she teaches piano classes, music appreciation, and performance classes. |

Dan Pool has been teaching PIANO for over 20 years and playing for over 35 years. He has a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Sacramento State University. Dan became interested in the piano at a very young age and now, apart from teaching, he also is a piano accompanist. He has 20 years of experience in theater as a pianist and conductor, has played with Music Circus and is currently the accompanist for the SCC choir and music director for the ARC theater. Dan has taught children ages from 4 to 18 but he is willing to teach all ages.

David Shapiro teaches GUITAR (all styles except Flamenco), banjo, and mandolin. He studied liberal arts at the University of Maryland and has a B.A. in Composition from the Berklee College of Music. Steve Miller, Huey Lewis, Bonnie Raitt, Norton Buffalo, Maria Muldaur, Peter Rowan, Taj Mahal, Dan Hicks, Tower of Power, members of the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, Tony Rice and Bela Fleck are just some of the artists who David has played or recorded with. He is also an arranger and songwriter, and was the creative advisor and arranger for Suspex Records in Sausalito for many years. He has performed with the Modesto & Cameilia symphonies.

A native of California, Janell Stimers received her AA at the age of 18, and has a BA in Piano Performance and a Masters of Music in Composition. She studied with Jerry Murphy, Richard Cionco, and Leo Eylar and has been teaching piano for 10 years. She has experience teaching privately and in group settings, from ages 3 to 86 years old. She has played for the CA State Senior Legislature, the Wilson Home, Shriners Hospital for Children, musicals such as Gershwin's "Crazy About You", and other venues including restaurants and weddings, and is a former member of the jazz combo, "The Friday Night Combo." Janell teaches a variety of styles for piano, depending upon the student's interests: classical, jazz, gospel, pop, new age, and world. She implements ear-training and theory into the lessons, as well as listening assignments to create a broad learning scope for the student. Janell also sings in The Rock Church Choir, and is currently working on a Alternative Christian cd project with her cousin. Janell loves to travel, paint, shop, and do ocean sports.
