By the early 1950s, Florence Price had experienced success as both a composer of major instrumental works as well as teaching pieces for elementary and intermediate students. In 1951, the Clayton F. Summy Co. published three of her solos for students---"The Sea Swallow," "The Old Boatman," and "The Goblin and the Mosquito." This publication includes these three solos under one cover.

This edition is based on the 1951 publications by the Clayton F. Summy Co. Some notation (including pedal markings) has been modernized and additional fingerings have been added to aid in student performance.
